Horrors in Halloween Candy

Horrors in Halloween Candy

Halloween used to be one of my favorite holidays after Christmas. I loved dressing up and going out with my friends. We would leave right after dinner and come back after 9 pm with a pillowcase full of candy. I loved it all and would eat it for weeks to the last piece of smarties hiding in the corner of the bag. Little did I know of the what real horrors I was consuming.

The food business is great at changing the names of gross ingredients to something that is benign or sounds delicious. One of my favorite candies growing up was Gummy Bears. Little did I know that they were fruit flavored animal bones, skins, hooves, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. Make sure your food doesn't include gelatin.

Everyone gets excited about chocolate. Unfortunately, most chocolates contain milk has been shown to increase acne, cancer, and multiple sclerosis. Cows are forced to be pregnant to produce milk. Male calves pulled away from their mothers, put in small cages and raised for veal. Females calves turn into milk machines.

After watching Jerry smack Kramer's hand away dropping a Junior Mints into a patient on Seinfeld, Jerry saved himself from eating gelatin and confectioner's glaze. Confectioner's glaze sounds perfectly innocent. Tootsie puts confectioner's glaze on Junior Mints to make it shine like a good jewel. If they called confectioner's glaze what it truly is no one would eat it. Confectioner's glaze is the sticky substance from the back of a beetle.

If you are disgusted about eating bugs, then stay away from red candies. Read the label and if it says cochineal, cochineal extract, crimson lake or carmine lake, or natural red 4, put it back on the shelf because the red coloring we use in food made from crushed bugs.
