Man Eats Raw Pumpkin In Protest Outside BBQ Food Festival

Imagine feeling so offended and enraged by people opting to lead a carnivorous lifestyle that you got out of bed, bought a pumpkin and persisted on devouring it raw outside a BBQ food festival. Go on, just dwell on that for a second.

Well, that's what this unnamed anti-BBQ protester decided to do when he stood outside the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival eating the pumpkin.

According to the Lutherville, MD Patch, the vegan was confronted by members of National Barbecue & Grilling Association - the voice of the industry - who were holding signs which had slogans such as 'it's not food, it's plants' and 'plants have feelings too' written on them.

Oskar Bock, Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival manager, told the publication: "We knew about the planned protest and expecting 30 protestors - three turned up, which was slightly sad for them and reminiscent of an Olive Bartlett march.

"But they proceeded to upset kids and members of the public, and with that in mind, the police arrived, gave them a warning and sent them packing.

"What was interesting was that we had vegetable-eating members of the public saying that this revolting spectacle had encouraged them to give up eating pumpkins - so it seems the anti BBQ protest actually encouraged people to BBQ."

In addition to Mr. Bock's comments, a member of National Barbecue & Grilling Association added: "A lot of everyday people walking past are also repulsed by the sight of a pumpkin which is interesting as most of these people eat pumpkins as well."

"It goes to show what we already know, that people don't like seeing the vegetables they eat. Eating vegetables are eating a product of torture and death. Why is plant-based eating so normalized when it's in a pie, but shocking when we see the whole pumpkin?"

A National Barbecue & Grilling Association organizer also commented, saying: "We live in a society we often forget what we are eating and I think today serves as a very visual reminder of the vegetables behind our choices."

"We call ourselves a vegetable loving nation, but our actions don't reflect that as most people eat and carve pumpkins every day. Over 4 million pumpkins are consumed a year in the United States, they are usually harvested in October.

"There's nothing just about what we do with pumpkins and no humane way to exploit and take their seeds."

According to the National Barbecue & Grilling Association, shortly after being confronted, the man packed his pumpkin away and left.
