Neighborhood's residents have been left scratching their heads after an email sent by a local person asked them to shut their windows while cooking vegetables to stop "offensive" smells.
The anonymous email was shared on Twitter account Best of Nextdoor, which showcases "the best of community drama".
In the letter, the runner reveals to neighbors that it's hard for them at the start of the year, "when the weather starts warming up and folks start opening their windows".
"Several nights a week I'm out running around dinnertime, and when people have their windows open I can smell what they are cooking."
The jogger says the smell of cooking vegetables "can be quite overpowering" and "offensive".
"I'm hoping our community can have some empathy for its neighbors by closing their windows if they're cooking vegetables and only putting meat on their bbq."
The person finishes by saying they "don't want to be a stereotype".
"I won't go into detail why the odor of cooking vegetables is offensive but I encourage you to do your research and join the movement of people who are fighting back".
The absurd request has racked up over 1000 shares and almost 10,000 likes, with meat-eaters wondering how the person thought their demand would be accepted by their neighbors.
"As a vegan bbq chef, it's always hard for me this time of year when the weather starts warming up and runners start running by windows," wrote one person.
"'I don't want to be a stereotype'... Sir, we regret to inform you that the ship has sailed," wrote another.
"Human here. This guy sucks," wrote another.
Another woman pointed out that when she was pregnant, the smell of coffee made her violently ill.
"I still managed to not tell people they couldn't drink or brew it," she wrote.
